HIV/AIDS Seminar for Religious Leaders

The Public Health Department, the Cayman AIDS Foundation and Mrs. Yvonne Campbell, founder and president of Aids Prevention Education Campaign (APEC), a privately funded organization, will present a 3-day seminar focusing on religious leaders’ role in the prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS.

The Pastoral HIV/AIDS Awareness Training Seminar, conducted by the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, will be held on the weekend of 29 April.

Why focus on religious leaders? An SDA spokesperson said: “The churches have strengths, they have credibility, and they are grounded in communities. This offers them the opportunity to make a real difference in combating HIV/AIDS. To respond to this challenge, the churches must be transformed in the face of the HIV/AIDS crisis, in order that they may become a force for transformation-bringing healing, hope and accompaniment to all affected by HIV/AIDS.”

Pastors from all churches are invited to attend and can register by calling 949-2647 or 914-2561. Friday’s session is scheduled for 9:00am-12:00 noon resuming from 7:00-9:00pm and Sunday’s session is from 9:00am-3:30pm. These will be held at Cayman Academy School Hall, located off Walkers Road. Saturday’s session will be held at the George Town Seventh-day Adventist Church on Smith Road and is scheduled for 4:00-6:00pm.
