Temporary Solid Waste OfficeThe Department of Environmental Health's new temporary Solid Waste Management Office is now open. Located at the end of Sparky Drive in the Jay Bodden development and opposite the Water Authority's new sewage treatment plant on Lincoln Drive, it replaces the former office situated at the far end of the George Town landfill. "We are very grateful for Jay Bodden's generosity in signing a peppercorn lease with the department, and allowing our office to use his land and re-locate for a year," said Chief Environmental Health Officer Roydell Carter. "Our new temporary location is more convenient for customers since they don't have to travel into the landfill to make inquiries," said Mr. Carter. Another benefit to the new location is the fenced compound around the new office trailers which increases security for DEH's sanitation and garbage collection trucks and equipment. Customers are welcome to call or visit the office with enquiries about waste collection, as well as following up on container requests for residential or commercial use and making reports of litter and sanitation problems. Commercial waste collection is accomplished through container rental and servicing and several sizes and types of containers are available for rental on a daily, monthly or annual basis. The servicing frequency can be arranged from once monthly to six days weekly. A number of new containers are available for rent and are ideal for large commercial or construction clean up jobs. Currently, the residential customers receive garbage collection twice a week and commercial service is based on demand. Litter collection and sanitation is done island-wide on a daily basis. The office hours are normally from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday. However, calls made out-of-office hours will be monitored. For more information call the Solid Waste Management Office on 949-8793 or fax 949-0754 or visit the new office at the end of Lincoln Drive entering through Sparky Drive.
