National Trust Guided Walking Tour, April 16, 8:00am.Guided by a local naturalist, take an easy stroll along Jasmine Lane. The lane dissects the diverse woodland of native trees and plants and is the perfect casual walk for those seeking an introduction to the natural forest and woodlands of Cayman. Earth Day Tree planting at various schools, April 22Students will be learning about native trees and planting them on school property. Annual Eco-Art Party April 22To commemorate Earth Day, the National Gallery and the Department of Environmental Health invites all children to their annual Eco-Art Party on Friday 22 April from 3:00-5:00pm. Children should bring clean garbage or interesting discarded items, and learn how to create art from recycled/reused objects. A healthy snack and juice follows - organic of course! Chalk Fest April 23 8:00-10:00am.The National Gallery takes part in the Cayman National Cultural Foundation's Cayfest each year by offering school children and local artists the chance to make Cardinal Avenue come alive with street painting, also known as 'chalk art.' Afterwards children can don swimsuits and have fun helping the fire truck wash down the sidewalks. Cold water and sun-block provided. All are welcome to participate and the first 800 volunteers will receive a free t-shirt. Organize a clean-up group in your community or at your workplace and contact the Chamber office. Mangrove Tree Planting, April 23, South SoundHelp the Department of the Environment (DOE) re-plant red mangroves in South Sound. Volunteers can call the DOE at 949-8469. Reef Watch Survey, April 23Watersports enthusiasts will join the Cayman Islands Tourism Association and DOE in conducting an underwater survey of Cayman's reefs. Local watersports operators offer discounts and promotions to divers and snorkellers who fill out a survey for the DOE on the health of reefs. Check newspaper ads for more information. Turtle Farm Free Residents Day, April 23Visit the Turtle Farm in West Bay for free, all day. Local residents are asked to bring their driver's license to gain entry. Brac Cleanup, April 23, Westerly Pond, 8:00amThe Cayman Brac chapter of the National Trust will be spearheading a clean up beginning at the Westerly Pond at 8:00am and progressing to the area beaches. Everyone is invited to come out and help keep the Brac clean. National Trust Lecture Series, April 26, 7:30pmFrank Roulstone and renowned ornithologist Patricia Bradley will kick-off the series with a presentation entitled 'Our Islands' Birds - A long-term perspective.'
