Recognizing Women’s Strength

T-shirts in the WRC’s Clothesline Project. A 5-Kilometer Walk/Run commemorating International Women’s Day takes place this Saturday, 12 March, starting at the West Bay Road Public Beach at 6:30am for walkers and 7:00am for runners. It is part of the scheduled activities for the annual Honouring Women Month’s (HWM) observance.

With this year’s theme being Resilient Mind, Body & Spirit, a range of other events addresses the mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing of females of all ages. For instance, the Clothesline Project goes on display on Monday 14th outside the GT Post Office featuring T-shirts decorated by abuse victims. Another means of expression for women, men and children alike is the new Poetry/Photo contest — with Tuesday 15 March being the deadline for entries.

Activities kick off with the traditional HWM Open House at the WRC office on Tuesday 8 March (International Women’s Day), followed by a Creating the Career You Love workshop the next day. Weekly lectures are also scheduled, with the next being Nurturing Our Spiritual Needs, on Wednesday 16th at 5:30pm.

Thursday 17th is being observed as Day of Women’s Health at the Cayman Islands Health Services. That same evening, there will be Women Menopause Workshop at the WRC, starting at 5:30pm. Friday 18th will see the programme focus on Cayman Brac, with WRC staff hosting a Girl Talk session with high school students.

A variety of other social and informative events are scheduled for the remainder of this month. For more information contact the WRC at 949-0006, email tammy.ebanks-bishop@gov.ky or log on to www.gov.ky/wrc.
