Shelter UpdateThe Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is continuing its relocation of those in need of housing, following the December closure of the last remaining shelter, the East End Civic Centre. Four such families returned to their Lyndhurst apartments before Christmas. Repairs on an additional two apartments are expected to be shortly completed. Four elderly shelter residents have now been relocated, along with their caregivers, to an affordable housing rental property in West Bay. Their care is being supervised by the DCFS’s Adults Special Needs programme, which also provides oversight of administration of medication. Another four elderly residents are being cared for under the same scheme at Sammy’s Airport Inn. “We are also collaborating closely with the Temporary Housing Committee in an effort to allocate trailer homes to those who are still homeless,” said DCFS Director Dianna Lookloy.
