Diving… Even More Spectacular…Though some of Grand Cayman’s underwater gullies are now full of sand, all sand has gone from others, effectively making the canyons deeper and even more spectacular. The Stingray Sandbar and Stingray City are as they were before the storm, with nothing to report other than a lot of hungry Stingrays. There is no damage to report on the west, north and east sides of Grand Cayman. The south coast, the least visited diving area of Grand Cayman, experienced the full force of Ivan and signs of damage were reported in depths of up to 30ft. Beyond that however, there were no signs of damage to the structure of reefs, though there was some loss of sponge life. The Sister Islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman reported no damage to their dive sites. Throughout the Cayman Islands, various beach and household furniture items and miscellaneous debris such as tires, refrigerators, chairs, etc., were reported in some dive sites. A reef clean up is scheduled to begin within the next two weeks. For more information, contact CITA at 925-3817.
