There have been no reported cases of waterborne diseases such as cholera, Hepatitis A and typhoid or mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, Yellow fever or West Nile virus in the Cayman Islands.

Dr. Kumar has stated that recent rumours about an outbreak of Hepatitis A from contaminated water on the island are unfounded. “While there had been plenty of sewage-contaminated water since the hurricane, it did not contain the virus and as our water is from desalination there is no chance of having an outbreak of Hepatitis A in these islands.”

Flu vaccine shots are now available at these locations: The General Practice Clinic at the Cayman Islands Hospital, Faith Hospital in Cayman Brac and all District Health Centres, from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For residents of Bodden Town, the vaccine will be given at the Bodden Town Primary School until further notice. Residents of Little Cayman should contact the clinic to make arrangements at 948-0114.
