Employment Relations

If you need urgent advise or assistance with employment issues, the Employment Relations Department is now up and running at its new location on the 2nd Floor of the Royal Bank Plaza, opposite the post office in George Town. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 949-0941.

Any Labour tribunal cases that were not heard as a result of Hurricane Ivan will be rescheduled as soon as possible and participants will be notified directly of any changes.

The department encourages all employers seeking to hire new staff to contact them directly. Some 800 persons are registered with the department as seeking employment but unfortunately, all construction-related workers are currently employed.

Employers are also advised that all aspects of the Labour Law still apply. All employees should still be paid overtime as required and employers who need to reduce their staff levels must still make severance payments.
