The CUC Current

Portions of Seven Mile Beach and eastern areas beginning with Red Bay are on the current work list for Caribbean Utilities, as the company works to complete restoration in West Bay.

Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC) reports that service has now been restored to approximately 5,300 customers in George Town, the Seven Mile Beach area and West Bay, representing 25% of their total customer base. Reconstruction of damaged power lines is currently 85% complete in George Town and 50% complete in West Bay.

Reconnection of service is scheduled to continue as follows:

West Bay: Reconnection commenced on 7 October and remains ongoing. The process is expected to be complete by October 26 for all customer premises that are ready to be energized.

West Bay Road to Safehaven: 20 October–3 November. CUC is currently completing reconstruction of the main lines from Eastern Avenue to the Hyatt (including the Britannia Villas) and northward to Safehaven, through the weekend of 23-24 October.

Red Bay to Bodden Town, including Admiral’s Landing, Prospect, Patrick’s Island, Spotts Newlands, Hirst Road and Northward: Restoration will commence 23 October, upon arrival of the required 70-foot transmission poles, which are expected on-island by this weekend.

North Seven Mile Beach from Safehaven to West Bay Fire Station, including Lime Tree Bay, Governor’s Harbour, Yacht Club and Marsh Road: Rebuilding will commence by 30 October as the distribution circuits in this area were completely destroyed. Since the out-of-stock transmission poles are not required in this area, major reconstruction is underway between SafeHaven and Raleigh Key (Governor’s Harbour).

George Town: The restoration of service to all re-connectable customers will near completion by 31 October.

Bodden Town to Frank Sound Junction, including Belford Estates, Pease Bay, Midland Acres and Breakers: Restoration will commence 5 November. It is expected that customer connections will commence early to mid-November.

Frank Sound/North Side/Colliers, including Hutland, Frank Sound and Queen’s Highway): 9–16 November. CUC has discovered that a boat that sank 1,500 feet offshore in the North Sound has damaged a section of the submarine cable used to power this area. Service cannot be restored until after repairs have been complete.

East End: CUC will begin restoration of the overhead power lines from the Frank Sound Substation on 9 November and are projecting a completion date of 25 November for all customers able to receive power.
