Data to Secure Aid

The Cayman Islands Recovery Operations (CIRO) group is compiling and assessing data on Hurricane Ivan’s impact on the Islands. This information will be applied to initiatives for securing aid for post-Ivan restoration activities.

Help in compiling and assessing this data will come from both the UN and the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

The UN has sent Mr. Roberto Jovel, who arrived Thursday (21 October). Mr.Jovel works for the UN’s Economic Commission for Latin American and the Caribbean (ECLAC). He is based in the Dominican Republic and currently leads a team working in Jamaica. Mr. Joe Beeley, economic adviser for the Overseas Territories, will be visiting Grand Cayman 25-30 October.

The CIRO’s sub-committee on Information and Planning is preparing the required socio-economic and environmental assessments under the leadership of Ms Catharine Read. She heads Government’s Economics and Statistics Office and many of her staff members are also on the Information and Planning sub-committee.
