News from the Port AuthorityCompensating for possible delays, the Port Authority has temporarily extended the period for which cargo does not incur any storage charges from five to ten working days. In addition, the port will remain open until 8:00pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to allow after-office hours collection of imported goods. The Authority aims to have all LCL (less than container loads) cargo available within four working days of discharge from the ship. Dedicated containers are available within one working day of discharge. Brokers and trucking companies experiencing difficulties in delivering containers should submit to the Cargo Distribution Centre a list of their containers for delivery the following day, and the order in which they wish to collect them. This information should be provided by 3:00pm on the previous working day. Imports which have been at the Cargo Distribution Centre on Portland Road longer than ten working days will incur storage charges. These will have to be paid at the Port Authority’s Billing Office on Portland Road before the goods are released. Items at the Cargo Distribution Centre longer than ten days should be collected immediately, as such goods are subject to auction after four weeks.
