CAL Reaches New HeightsThe national flag carrier, Cayman Airways, reaches new heights this week, when it takes off on its inaugural flight to Boston, Massachusetts, on Friday (17 December). “We are confident that this route is going to be successful. We targeted Boston for its strategic location and travel potential and sales are going very well,” said General Manager of Cayman Airways, Mike Adam. In addition to the usual receptions on arrival in Boston, a special Cayman Islands Sea School with the cartoon figure SpongeBob SquarePants, has been organised by the Department of Tourism at the Boston Public Library. The department has adopted SpongeBob, who now “lives” in the Cayman Islands, as part of its US tourism strategy. Cayman Airways, which now flies to Miami, Tampa, Houston, in addition to the new route to Boston, is resuming its non-stop jet service to Chicago on Saturday (18 December). It returns from Chicago on Sundays. At the same time, Tourism reports that it now has four properties fully licensed and ready for visitors and that it is focusing on enhancing service in 2005: “The Caribbean is very attractive and the competition is fierce,” said Acting Director Pilar Bush. “Our service has to be extraordinary to complete.”
