Officials Tour Cleanup Sites

Trucks enter and leave the Justin Woods Quarry in Bodden Town. One month after the debris clean-up contract was signed, Leader of Government Business the Hon. McKeeva Bush made time for an inspection of the island-wide clean-up effort, as well as the debris processing centres.

The delegation, which included Cabinet Secretary Orrett Connor and MC Restoration representative Mark Scotland, toured from George Town to East End this week.

They spoke to workers and inspected sites such as the Justin Woods and East End quarries where material is being trucked in under close scrutiny and sorted, and where vegetation is ground to mulch; wood is placed in low-emission burners; sandy matter is sifted to reclaim the sand; and metals are separated for recycling.

The Minister expressed pleasure at the progress and the wide involvement of the clean-up operation, noting that it has resulting in great reduction in the mass – for example the East End site is already down to only 20-percent its original size.
