Travel Trailers on the WayCIRO, the Cayman Islands Recovery Operations task force, has established a group that will procure and locate travel trailers for use as temporary accommodation. Recovery Manager Orrett Connor announced the plan this week at the Chamber of Commerce 1 December luncheon at which he was the guest speaker. Mr. Connor said that the programme is intended as a bridging mechanism to assist ten-ants to get back into their homes or into rented accommodation. The Travel Trailers are 32 ft long and 8 ft wide and sleep six people. They are fully furnished, including appliances such as refrigerators and stoves. Amenities include water heaters and air-conditioning. They can be placed on tenants’ own property, or on a government-designated site. Cabinet has approved the purchase of 50 to 75 trailers, which will be introduced in phases according to demand. The first ten trailers will be available early in the new year. The Temporary Housing Committee (THC) has determined the eligibility criteria for prospective tenants. Mrs. Joy Basdeo, who heads the committee, says that the travel trailers will be allocated to individual and families whose housing is uninhabitable or totally destroyed.
