Profile of Current Duty Concessions

Cabinet this week approved an extension of the 50% reduction on duty on building supplies, furniture and appliances, etc., to 31 March 2005, when it will be reviewed. The Portfolio of Finance & Economics and the Customs Department have been swiftly responding to the recovery needs of residents and businesses by implementing duty concessions as approved by Cabinet.

Vechicles 10 % reduction of current duty rates (tariff codes: 87.01 through 87.05)  
Applies only to written-off vehicles –
individual and commercial importers are eligible. Boats are not included. Applications are to be made to the Portfolio of Finance & Economics (forms available from the Portfolio).

Building materials 50% reduction of current duties

 
Includes items such as lumber, trusses,
plywood, sheet rock, cement board, nails, hurricane straps, tacks, screws (wood/ masonry) anchor bolts, steel, texture 1 - 11, wire slab, wire mesh, electrical wire, cement, shingles, roofing tiles, roofing underlay products, zinc (all types of galvanized
sheeting), blocks/pavers, compounds
(knockdown, joint, etc.), PVC
piping, electrical conduit piping, copper plumbing materials. Individual and commercial importers are eligible for this concession.

Fixtures and Furniture 50% reduction of current duties

 
Includes hard home furnishings (sofas,
tables, chairs, beds, etc.), appliances
(stoves, refrigerators, washers, dryers,
dishwashers, microwaves, etc.), doors and windows and associated hardware, insulation, floor tiles and tiling materials (thin set, grouting), lighting fixtures, ceiling fans, a/c units, bathroom fixtures (tubs, toilets, wash basins), paneling, guttering, cabinetry, carpeting/rugs, screens, ceiling tiles. Individual and commercial importers
are eligible for this concession.
