Shelter Update

There are 75 homeless families throughout the districts and attempts are being made to secure travel trailers for use as temporary accommodation for some of those persons.

The Temporary Housing Committee will be allocating trailers to individuals or families whose housing is uninhabitable or totally destroyed. The programme is intended as a bridging mechanism to assist residents to get back into their homes or into rented accommodation. The first ten trailers will be available early in the new year.

Staff members from the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) are focusing current efforts on trying to relocate the 29 residents still currently at the East End shelter. Five Lyndhurst Apartments units are available and families will return to these once furniture has been installed, but these cannot accommodate that entire group.

The Pines residents who are currently staying at Sammy’s Airport Inn are scheduled to return to the retirement home sometime this week.
