Salvaged Vehicles Are Insurable

Although it has been confirmed that it is legal to purchase vehicles that were considered a ‘total loss’ and to repair them to be driven, rumours continue to circulate that these vehicles cannot be insured.

This is false!

Based on conversations with various insurance companies island-wide, it is common practice to insure these vehicles once they have passed an inspection. Some insurers will perform the inspection themselves; others may require official notification from a garage or dealer of having passed an inspection. But either way, they DO insure eligible vehicles.

One insurance company explained that some vehicles may only be eligible for thirdparty coverage, but could be considered for full comprehensive insurance if inspected by the dealer, (e.g.: Toyota inspected by a Toyota dealer, etc.)

Overall, it seems as if the rumour mill will not cease spewing out falsities but this is one rumour that can be considered officially DUMPED.
