Tourism Bounces Back

With stay-over tourists being welcomed back, four properties are currently licensed and fully open for business. These are the Avalon, Plantana Condos, Cobalt Coast Resort and the Marriott Courtyard. Others will be coming on line soon.

The Cayman Islands tourism team has also been busy brushing up our tourism product, preparing for the Disney Cruise Line holiday visit, distributing re-inspection letters to various establishments, repairing and resurrecting signage at attractions such as at the Conch Shell House, and compiling information on various aspects of our tourism product.

For the Disney Cruise Line holiday visit, Captain Mickey and a few friends from the cruise line will spread some Christmas cheer this holiday season when they come ashore and dish out Christmas goodies to children in the Paediatric Ward at the Cayman Islands Hospital and at the Lighthouse School.

In the area of transportation, the department’s ‘Express’ bus service is providing a dependable and reliable service for persons who lost their vehicles due to Hurricane Ivan. The service operates during peak traffic hours in the morning and evening from West Bay, Bodden Town, Prospect and George Town, with drop-off points in Industrial Park and George Town. Brochures outlining the new routes and times are being distributed to various government agencies, and are also available fromt the Department of Vehicle & Licensing and at the Department of Tourism.
