MC Restoration Trucks onWith 200 truckloads going to the dumpsites on Wednesday alone, this week has been the best thus far for MC Restoration’s cleanup effort, reported Dale Patterson of Witt Associates. Monitoring MC Restoration’s work on behalf of the government, Mr. Patterson said there are now 149 local trucks and haulers helping to clear the debris. West Bay saw seven six-man crews working their neighborhood all this week, following on from the initial clearing of areas in South Sound, Prospect and Mariner’s Cove. Cleanup started in West Bay due to the availability of equipment, but the whole island will see crews at work with MC Restoration making a sweep down Seven Mile Beach through George Town, reaching Bodden Town as early as next week. The first sweep could be completed as early as Christmas. MC Restoration will then start another sweep of the island, specifically helping owners to clear their yards and picking up any debris that was missed with the first round of cleanups, said Mr. Patterson. Burning has ceased in West Bay, but the processing of vegetation and construction debris continues at the West Bay burn site as well as at the Finch Drive site, where debris has been collected and will be processed into mulch. All metals will be separated and temporarily located at Bush Field for processing at another site following the initial West Bay sweep. The processing of debris at the quarry in East End also began last week. The separation of all metals from debris piles has been completed as well as the processing of all other debris by grinding into mulch. The processing equipment has been relocated to West Bay to continue the process there. “Work started slowly as there were many issues to consider, such as worker and vehicle safety and the safety of dump sites. Now that everything and everyone has been coordinated, things are going along at a good pace,” explained Mr. Patterson. He commended West Bay on its debris separation efforts, noting that people can speed up the process considerably by sorting debris before it is removed.
