Hurricane Ivan Ribbons on SaleStaff members in the Governor’s Officeare working to raise funds for the Cayman Islands National Recovery Fund (CINRF) by offering Hurricane Ivan lapel ribbons for sale to cruise ship visitors. The launch will take place Thursday 16 December,at a ceremonial cutting of the ribbon inGeorge Town. The ribbons, similar to the breast cancer or HIV awareness lapel ribbons, will be gold in colour – the same as the logo of the CINRF. “We are not asking a set price for the ribbons, but are asking people to make a donation towards the National Recovery Fund,” said Ms Melenie Mylrea of the Governor’s Office. Officiating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony will be HE the Governor, Mr Bruce Dinwiddy, CMG; the Hon. Leader of Government McKeeva Bush, OBE; and Cabinet Secretary Orrett Connor MBE. The ribbon will be strung across the Cruise Ship Terminal in George Town. The sale of ribbons to cruise ship visitors will then continue each morning, from 7:30 to 10:00 am, and from 3:00 to 4:00 pm, for a week. Sales will continue in the New Year or while stocks last. Columbian Emeralds International and the Good Government Fund from the Governor’s Office sponsored the first batch of 10,000 ribbons. Anyone interested in sponsoring the second batch of ribbons or any volunteers who would like to assist with the sale of the ribbons may contact Melenie Mylrea at 244-2425 or email her at melenie.mylrea@fco.gov.uk. The ribbons will also be on sale at local businesses, retail outlets, banks and in the Government Administration building.
